Pre-Kindergarten

Overview of Pre-Kindergarten Resources

Although the Alberta Education Continuum of Learning Direction does not require Pre-Kindergarten, we are offering this optional support through our Pre-Kindergarten teachers and staff hired through Bright Futures Play Academy. Each teacher is encouraged to reach out to determine which families would like some communication on program items. We will not be charging for this support for these families from April 2020 to June 2020 as we believe this support is being provided with a spirit of supporting early childhood development prior to entering kindergarten in the future.

Each section below details the pre-kindergarten focus on purposeful play and literacy development with a brief description and link to the resources within the Learning Support Plan using the orange button.

Teachers are able to access the resources using the links and where necessary "make a copy" of the Google Doc to build their own learning plans for students.

Using Digital Tools to Connect with children and parents of Pre-Kindergarten children.

A document providing advice and resource links to connect with pre-kindergarten children and their parents using digital tools is available below with links to a number of websites.

Resources

Connecting Digitally With Students
Considering that pre-kindergarten children will need their parents or caregivers to assist with connecting with their teacher some of these resources may need to be creatively modified given the age group.

Your Students Miss Seeing You!
Using a pre-recorded video to send a message to greet your students and their parents or to provide some weekly connections may also be an avenue to consider. See the link below to review some potential ways to connect digitally.

Mentor Teacher Supports
Support for teacher development in utilizing various digital tools is available from peers and colleagues both within Learning Services and within various schools. A list of "mentor teachers" has been developed to support with digital tools. To access this list of "mentor teacher" colleagues and Learning Services staff at various grade/subject levels who are willing to support this work, please click on the link below.

If you want to be added to this list, please contact Sean Lougheed in Learning Services as we anticipate this list to evolve over time.

Resources to Support Diverse Learners in PUF Programs
The role of the Educational Assistant and classroom teacher changes in a remote learning delivery model to facilitation of learning activities that a parent or caregiver can provide to PUF students. Wolf Creek is developing an ongoing list of resources that will continue to be updated as we work with school staff and service delivery providers such as Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists and Educational Psychologists to provide appropriate activities. These may come in the form of documents, website links, videos, recorded webinars or virtual office hours for parents to join webinars at specific times. The link to access this web resource that is constantly under development is available below.
